Flynn Center for the Performing Arts :: 2008/2009 Season

Teacher Workshops

Recent research studies have shown that the performing arts have the capacity to improve the quality of pre-school through graduate education. To fill this gap in many teachers’ training, the Flynn offers a range of programs designed to help teachers adopt new ways to use the performing arts to achieve their classroom goals. As members of the prestigious Kennedy CenterPartners in Education network since 1992, the Flynn is committed to providing this important resource for Vermont teachers. The Arts Committee of the Flynn’s partner district Chittenden South Supervisory Union School District (CSSU) helps to guide the Flynn’s annual offerings for teachers.

Plans for 2008-09 include workshops led by Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Anne Galjour, Noche Flamenca, and select Kennedy Center and Flynn Center teaching artists. Use these workshops
toward your certification renewal!

OPEN FOR REGISTRATION

Since 2004, the Flynn Center has partnered with the Champlain Valley Educator Development Center to offer professional development workshops in the performing arts for teachers in Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties. These workshops are led by visiting artists performing at the Flynn, teaching artists on the Kennedy Center roster, and Flynn Center teaching artists and are held in either local schools or in Flynn studios. These workshops were developed in association with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and are partially underwritten by the US Department of Education; the National Committee for the Performing Arts; the Kennedy Center Corporate Fund; and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. Look for a listing here, to be updated periodically, with workshops offered in 2008-09 and registration information. A letter certifying attendance and outlining areas of applicability will be provided to each workshop participant.

Workshops will be listed here as they are announced.
