The world of hip-hop dance is exciting, athletic, and FUN!
This high-energy class builds stamina and introduces
students to the moves their favorite artists perform on TV.
Strength-training warm-ups promote healthy habits and an
understanding of the body's abilities, while hip choreography
set to music they groove to on their iPods makes pre-teens
more confident and excited about dance. Music and moves
are kept appropriate, and students share their cool new
moves with family and friends at semester's end.
Hip-Hop I (FULL) & II

LEVEL I: Mondays from 4:15-5:45 pm • LEVEL II: Tuesdays from 4:30-6 pm • Lois Trombley • $235/15 wks. • Limit: 18 •
Chase Dance Studio, first floor
Dance to the latest hip-hop sounds as you learn moves used
by artists in the hip-hop industry and in MTV music videos.
Both classes incorporate warm-ups designed to provide
strength, flexibility, and conditioning—preparing students
for this energetic and constantly evolving dance style.
Students in Level II will explore more complex combinations
and choreography.
Especially welcoming to adults new to the art form.

LOIS TROMBLEY is the co-creator, director, and
choreographer of Spielpalast Cabaret. She has performed
at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and with Jeh Kulu
Dance and Drama Theater, and studied West African
dance in Senegal.
SHERIEFS GAMBLE is an artist-educator who conducts
high school residencies and after-school classes in African,
salsa, and hip-hop dance. In Boston, he worked on
development of the World Dance Theatre, which promotes
cultural diversity through multicultural performing arts.
The Flynn’s dance program instills a lifelong love of dance, helping veteran dancers and first-timers alike experience the power of their bodies as expressive instruments and discover their unique movement capabilities. Classes cover a breadth of styles, teaching technique while helping students trust their own instincts—instilling confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Classes focus on process rather than product, but a year-end optional performance satisfies dancers’ desire to share their growth and hard work with family and friends. Our program is enhanced by connections to the world-class artists who perform on the Flynn MainStage and share their dance styles and ideas with FlynnArts students in masterclass settings. Drop-in students are permitted in teen/adult classes on a space-available basis for $16 per class. However, most classes fill up quickly with registered students, leaving no room for drop-ins. It is wise to secure a space in class by registering for the full semester.
