Shakespeare's Acting Clues with The Acting Company
TEENS & ADULTS: Friday, April 18 • 4:30–6 pm • The Acting Company • $20 • Limit: 20 • Hoehl Studio Lab, third floor
Whether appreciation, direction, or performance of Shakespearean works is your goal, acquire the
tools you need in this workshop with the famed Acting Company (alums include Kevin Kline and
Patti LuPone.) Based on the idea that every word spoken by a character comes from a need to use
those words, the workshop explores how to find everything you need to know about the intentions
and emotional life of Shakespearean characters, text analysis, and research.
"The Tempest" Pre-Performance Lecture: "Prospero's Decision"
Friday, April 18 • 6:30 pm • Amy E. Tarrant Gallery
at the Flynn Center • FREE!
Nick Clary, professor of English at Saint Michael's College,
specializes in the literature of Renaissance England. He will
discuss the questions related to Prospero's apparent change
of heart about his enemies and the implications of his
decision to forswear magic and return to Milan.
Links to MainStage Performance: The Acting Company: The Tempest • Friday, April 18 • 8 pm
Especially welcoming to adults new to the art form.
Our theater program emphasizes individual expression, creative choice, and FUN! Children’s classes build sequentially on the basics, while teens and adults can explore specific theater arts in greater depth (and shorter periods of time.) We keep class sizes small so everyone gets personal attention, and vary themes so that each semester challenges returning students as well as new ones. Performance opportunities let students try out their skills in front of supportive audiences of family and friends, and tours of the historic Flynn Theatre, discounts on world-class MainStage performances, and masterclasses with extraordinary visiting artists complement the strong core program.
