What not to miss this semester!
Travel back in time to 1777, when Vermont had formed an
independent republic, yet all around battles between Britain
and the colonies created tension on our land and shores.
How would you get by? What decisions would you make?
Wearing simple costumes for inspiration, we’ll bring the
tumultuous Revolutionary War period to life as we develop
characters to populate a fictional Vermont community, and
respond to the dramatic events and problems presented to
us by the older actors of History Improv in a week-long
improvisation.

JOAN ROBINSON is the associate director for school
programs at the Flynn Center, where she directs the Words
Come Alive! program, training school teachers to bring their
curriculum to life through the arts. More than 25 years of
experience performing, teaching, and storytelling inform
her work at the Flynn and at Saint Michael’s College,
where she teaches in the graduate program in education.
Our theater program emphasizes individual expression, creative choice, and FUN! Children’s classes build sequentially on the basics, while teens and adults can explore specific theater arts in greater depth (and shorter periods of time.) We keep class sizes small so everyone gets personal attention, and vary themes so that each semester challenges returning students as well as new ones. Performance opportunities let students try out their skills in front of supportive audiences of family and friends, and tours of the historic Flynn Theatre, discounts on world-class MainStage performances, and masterclasses with extraordinary visiting artists complement the strong core program.
