Jazz pianist and composer Carla Bley is a highly original
voice, famed for witty, idiosyncratic compositions and
arrangements for both small ensembles and her legendary big
bands. She is a longtime collaborator and bandmate of such
music icons as Charlie Haden, Paul Bley, Gary Burton,
Jack Bruce, and her partner, the great jazz bassist
Steve Swallow, who joins her and saxman Andy Sheppard
in this rare trio setting. Bley flourishes with intricacy, delicacy,
and subtle interplay with Swallow’s expressive bass and
Sheppard’s virtuoso turns on tenor and soprano sax.
The UVM Jazz Ensemble opens, showcasing Bley’s
innovative big-band music.
